Should You Use E85 Fuel In Your Vehicle?

Are you considering making the switch to E85 flex fuel? If so, you may be wondering if flex fuel is the right option for your car. We’ll help you determine if you should switch to E85 flex fuel. We put together a list of questions for you to answer. If your answer to any of these questions is a resounding “yes”, then making the switch to flex fuel is absolutely worth it. Note: Some cars are already compatible with E85. Others aren’t. If your car falls into the latter category, don’t worry. There’s an easy way to make your car compatible with E85 flex fuel. All you need to do is install an eFlexFuel E85 capability kit. There’s more information about this at the end of this post.

Do You Want To Increase Your Engine’s Power Output?

E85 is high octane fuel. It come with an octane rating of 100+. In fact, E85 is the highest octane fuel on the market. It allows the engine to run more optimally, spark advance, and resist knocking. This extracts more power out of an engine. With one of our eFlexPlus or eFlexPro E85 capability kits, you'll be able to select a high-performance tune for your engine or create your own. This will increase horsepower anywhere from 3 to 20%. The exact amount depends on your engine and how it's tuned.

Do You Want To Save Money On Fuel?

E85 is usually a lot cheaper than gasoline. Commonly, it is 25% to 35% less expensive than other high-octane fuels. You'll see big savings on fuel. E85 can lower your vehicle's MPG by up to 25%, but many vehicles only lose 15% to 20% in fuel mileage. Even if you see a 25% drop in your vehicle's mileage, you'll still save money anyway. With all of our capability kits, you can burn, for example, a 60/40 mixture of E85 and gasoline with little or no loss in fuel economy. Pair that with the fact that you're spending up to 10-20% less at the fuel pump, and you're looking at big savings. You can read more information about how E85 affects mileage and how you can save money on it here in this article

Do You Want Your Engine To Last A Long Time?

E85 burns much, much cleaner than gasoline. It also burns cooler. As a result, E85 prevents the carbon build-up that is the leading cause of ring and valve wear. The ethanol in E85 does a pretty great job clearing the deposits that form:

  • In the combustion chamber
  • In fuel injectors
  • On valve stems

In fact, a lot of people run one or two tanks worth of E85 through their engine to clean it out. The cleaner your engine stays, the longer it lasts.

Do You Want To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint?

Ethanol is a renewable resource. It's also produced right here in the USA. It's a whole better for the environment than pure fossil fuel. Using E85 as your primary fuel source reduces your vehicle's carbon footprint by up to 50%. This makes E85 the next best thing to electric vehicles as far as green solutions go.

Do You Want To Support American Farmers?

E85 is 85% ethanol, aka ethyl alcohol. In the United States, ethyl alcohol is made from distilling corn grown by American farmers. When you fill your tank with E85, your money stays in the USA.
